GALLOPING TO HEALTH –
June 10, 2026 – People were gathering on a tribal reservation on Wednesday with a message they hope will help other people overcome addiction. Once they arrived, people were invited to hear stories from faith leaders and natives who formerly struggled with drugs and alcohol. In some cases, they say they almost died. “The message we carry is we must love ourselves. But we also must love the people. We must love the people that we work with, we see our neighbors struggling. We have to stop and say, ‘do you need a lending hand? How can we help you, is there any way we can help you?’” McKenzie said. “And then the fentanyl hit the reservation and I was hooked on that,” Lavina Miller from Fort Berthold Recovery said.
