April 3, 2019 – Assemblyman Billy Jones, D-Chateaugay, sponsored the legislation. It was co-sponsored by Sen. Betty Little, R-Queensbury. “Anyone who has made the brave decision to begin their journey to recovery should be encouraged and supported every step of the way,” Jones said in a prepared statement.

The tax credit is an incentive to help counter reluctance by employers to hire people recovering from addiction, Jones said in a letter to Gov. Andrew Cuomo. “By gaining steady employment during the recovery process, individuals are more likely to complete their recovery and maintain a sober, healthy lifestyle,” Jones said.
