No Rehab For You –

Oct 19, 2019 – A community in Throgs Neck is celebrating a decision by the state to shut down a plan for a drug treatment facility that people had been protesting for years. Miracle City — a provider of health services for people with mental health and substance issues — operates a counseling center at 2800 Bruckner Blvd., where it was trying to establish outpatient services. The New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, or OASAS, denied that request.

The office didn’t specify why, but it issued a statement that says, “OASAS has a strict certification process that providers must go through to establish services and Miracle City’s application at 2800 Bruckner Blvd. was denied. We will continue to work with our certified providers across New York state to ensure that important services are in place for all New Yorkers who are affected by addiction.”

The center is just down the street from Tots, a school for children with disabilities, which parents say is a big reason why they opposed the plan. This celebration comes on the heels of Assemblyman Michael Benedetto’s proposed bill that would restrict substance abuse facilities from operating within 500 feet of a school, park or house of worship.
