PROFILE

Howard Josepher, LCSW, is Co-founder & President of Exponents, a non-profit, community-based organization in New York City dedicated to improving the quality of life of those affected by drug addiction, HIV/AIDS and re-entry to the community after incarceration. Mr. Josepher has been in the substance abuse treatment field for over forty-five years. He is a past chairman of the Substance Abuse Committee of NYC’s HIV Prevention Planning Group, has served on the city’s DoHMH, Mental Hygiene Advisory Council, and is currently a member of the NYS, OASAS Recovery Implementation Team. His work with HIV/AIDS patients earned him the National Association of Social Workers’ Diego Lopez Award.

Q: What was your DOC and when did you discontinue its use?

A: Heroin. I quit in 1967—it will be 50 years at the end of [May].

A: College—Long Island University
