December 21, 2018 – I relayed that story Friday to Raiders tight end Darren Waller, who grew quiet for a second, then said, “Wow. That’s powerful.” Waller, whose own life has included a cycle of drugs and alcohol starting at age 16, can relate. “I like myself now, and that’s probably the most important part if it, just acceptance,” Waller said. “With who I am and what I brought to the table before, it was hard to do that. I was beating myself up in the form of drugs and alcohol. Liking myself is a huge component in my recovery.” Waller, 26, was signed by the Raiders off the practice squad of the Baltimore Ravens on Nov. 27. After getting a crash course in the Raiders system, Waller made his first contribution in a 30-16 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
