April 6, 2019 – “We realized that she had a drinking and prescription drug addiction,” Ford-Bales said. “We came together as a family and did an intervention on her. We were lucky — she chose to go to treatment. Not all people who get intervened on make that choice.” … “Until we have a magic pill — and I don’t think there’s ever going to be one for this problem — alcoholism and chemical dependency is always going to be an issue,” she said. “Yes, it is a genetic issue with some people, but not all people. I just think we have to try and figure out better ways to combat it.”

Opioid addiction, which has particularly impacted West Virginia, usually begins with routine medical treatment, Ford-Bales said … this year’s event will include talks by futurist Dr. Joel Selanikio, former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich and political strategist Karl Rove.
