Pete Davidson Got Sober Because:  “Mom ‘F***ed Me Up” - Addiction/Recovery eBulletin

KEPT COMING BACK –

April 12, 2026 – “I remember my mom popped on the screen, and she was like, ‘Peter, it’s really hard to be your mom. It’s not a fun job,” the Saturday Night Live alum recalled of the virtual visit. “I was still, like, newly sober, [thinking], ‘Well, you’re not f**king that special. What do you do?’” Pete is the son of Amy Davidson and Scott Davidson, the latter who died in the line of duty while responding to the September 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City.

During his rehab call with Amy, the comedian finally decided to quit using drugs and alcohol.

“She went, ‘Enough.’ She f***ed me up. She was, like, ‘Peter, ‘It’s very hard to be your mom because I wake up every morning with the fear that I’ll turn on the news and see that my son has died,’” Pete added of his mom. “She told me all this on Zoom — from the house that I bought her on drugs. I was like, ‘Someone’s getting used to things.’ That got me sober.”

Pete is especially glad to be sober now that he is a father. (Pete and his girlfriend, Elsie Hewitt, welcomed daughter Scottie Rose in December 2025.)
