Oct. 18, 2023 – The Environment Department will be focusing on a few key areas to do this: Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and Bernalillo. Kenny said it’s crucial to understand the impact of fentanyl and other opioids near public schools.

“I don’t think there’s anyone in New Mexico who isn’t affected by opioid abuse and illicit drugs like fentanyl,” Kenney said. Officials will use the data collected over time to understand what steps they should take to keep fentanyl and other opioids away from schools. The department will spend $600,000 on the program.
