It’s a signal that something inside you needs attention. I help people see that the real question isn’t “Why can’t I stop eating?” but “What’s eating at me?
Emotional eating means turning to food to manage feelings rather than physical hunger. Physical hunger builds slowly, is felt in your stomach, and is satisfied with a variety of foods. Emotional hunger comes on suddenly, feels urgent, and usually craves specific foods.
For example, after a stressful day, you might reach for ice cream, even if you’re not physically hungry. Emotional eating is a coping mechanism, meaning it’s your mind’s way of handling discomfort, stress, or unmet needs. You don’t have an eating problem; you have feelings that need expression.
