New York City now has its first so-called ‘sober high school’ where teenagers going through rehab can do so without the usual peer pressure. As CBS2’s Dana Tyler reported there is a push for more sober high schools. “The price of Newport Academy as a private school is right on par to almost all other private schools in Manhattan,” founder Jamison Monroe said. In addition to academics there is a focus on giving students the tools to stay off drugs and alcohol. There’s therapy, meditation, and yoga. Across the country there are about 35 public sober high schools but none in New York City.

There is no doubt that quitting drinking was good for my health (I lost weight, my skin improved, I had more energy) but I’ve started to wonder if it could actually be harmful to my career. Especially when it comes to impressing bosses and bonding with my co-workers … The recruitment website GlassDoor recently published a list of 13 British companies which give away free beer as a perk to their employees. US company Yelp.com made headlines a few years ago for installing a beer tap that workers could help themselves from at any time.

Writing my first book, Poetry Changes Lives in 2015, was a challenge; getting it published was a much bigger challenge. Publicising it this year is a greater challenge yet, because I am not strong on self- promotion and assertiveness generally. However all these events are the results of choices that I have made and I see them as part of the continuing process of my recovery, that is based on continuing attempts at self-improvement.

More than 900,000 U.S. physicians can write prescriptions for painkillers such as OxyContin, Percocet and Vicodin. As Heroin Overdoses Surge, So Does Treatment Training VIDEO
Narcan … basically kicks the heroin off of the opioid receptors in the brain and attaches to the receptors itself. But Narcan has no effects other than blocking opioids – it does not produce euphoria or cause sleepiness, so it is not addictive and you cannot overdose from too much of the drug. Narcan simply temporarily replaces the heroin on the opioid receptor and thus stops the opioid from reacting, enabling the victim to resume breathing.
