How to be human? Humane? –
August 19, 2020 –
- Try not to be overly reliant on people, places, and things to make you feel “OK”
- Acceptance is the answer to all of our problems (not always agreement)
- “One day at a time”
- Turn inward for calm
- Ask for help and be open to receiving it
- What you focus on manifests (positive and negative)
- Set boundaries to protect your mind
- Surround yourself with positive influences and energy
- If you do not charge your own battery, you will have nothing to give others
- Invite spirituality into your day- it is the one constant
- You can restart your day at any time
- This too shall pass
- Self-care is more important now than EVER
- Avoid HALT: Becoming excessively hungry, angry, lonely, tired
- Take a break from “toxic” things
- Avoid “future tripping”
- View change as an opportunity for growth
- Tell others what your needs are, they cannot read your mind
- Ride the wave of emotions that may change daily
- Protect your mind from “triggers” that can include social media, news, people by limiting exposure or taking a break
- Everything is OK in this moment
- Reach out for social support and maintain a sense of community, even remotely
- Create a balanced daily behavioral schedule as many people are working remotely or have had significant schedule changes
- Move a muscle, change a thought
- Talk to a therapist if you are continuing to struggle psychologically
- Breathe, deeply
