Sept. 16, 2023 – It was estimated that an American drank on average over 2.51 gallons of ethanol in 2021. This equates to a person aged 14 or older—the legal drinking age in the country is still 21—consuming approximately an average of 535.5 standard drinks in a year, or one-and-a-half drink per day, according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
