Mar. 19, 2026 – Minnesota lawmakers are advancing a bill that would allow the consumption and display of alcoholic beverages in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

The bill, SF4256, authored by Sen. John Hoffman, DFL-Champlin, would create an exemption to existing law to allow “basically happy hour for grandpa and grandma,” he said.

Hoffman said that while he appreciates the state’s liquor laws and regulations, “sometimes government goes a little bit too far.”
