March 4, 2026 – Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said his department wants to address what he called a nationwide “spiritual malaise” underlying the “addiction epidemic.” The initiatives are murky on details, especially regarding funding and implementation. The Trump regime made deep budget cuts in several of the areas in which it now wants to address the crises. Conspicuously absent in the Trump administration’s plans were concrete steps to actually align various government entities, as well as nonprofits in the private sector to pursue long-term recovery care. And they appear to duplicate the work of an already existing White House drug policy office established 37 years ago. Moreover, some of the plans resemble what the Biden administration was already putting into place or attempting to under its “whole-of-government” approach.
