Feb. 4, 2026 – Jamie Lee Curtis marked 27 years of being sober from drugs and alcohol, thanking her late friend Richard Lewis for lending a helping hand during her journey. “27 years ago, I had pain and sorrow. I reached out my hand and my old colleague and friend, Richard Lewis, reached out and took my hand,” Jamie wrote in alongside a picture of her and Richard shared on Instagram Feb. 3.
“Richard introduced me to many others,” she added. “And for these 27 years I have met so many people who share our common link of addiction and recovery from that daily prison.”
Jamie shared how she continues to honor Richard—who died at the age of 76 in 2024—by helping others with their personal sobriety journeys.
“I’m honored to be open with strangers, many who know me better than people I have spent my entire life with,” she wrote. “And I try to honor all of their courage and strength, and hope daily and do what Richard did, which is reach my hand out to others in need. I miss my friend but his gift to me IS the gift that keeps on giving.”
The Freaky Friday star previously spoke about her “secret” addiction to opiates, which began in the late ‘80s after receiving prescription pills after a minor eye surgery.
