Doctor’s Journey Sparks A Movement - Addiction/Recovery eBulletin

THANK GOD –

Oct. 16, 2025 – Dr. Christopher Schenewerk’s personal battle with alcoholism transformed both his life and medical practice. After voluntarily entering rehab on Nov. 8, 2018, he has remained sober for over 2,500 days. “I became better at my job —better than even before alcoholism.” Initially hesitant to share his story, Schenewerk soon realized his experience could help others. “Patients have someone who’s been on the battlefield with addiction,” he said.

Just a month after rehab, he hosted his first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting at his Columbia office. The group quickly grew, prompting a move to a larger location in Columbia, with multiple meetings now held throughout the week. Additional meetings have since been established in surrounding cities. Attendance ranges from 10 to 50 people, with formats including book studies and open sharing.
