ONE TOKE OVER THE LINE? –
Aug. 8, 2024 – Andy Rayburn made history Tuesday, as did the customers at his marijuana dispensary on the first day of recreational cannabis sales in Ohio.
At Amplify in Cleveland Heights, he stood outside and greeted customers while basking in the novelty of the day. The day was the culmination of nine months of Ohioans waiting to buy marijuana legally. Fifty-seven percent of voters passed an initiated statute last November that allows adults aged 21 and older to purchase and possess up to 2.5 ounces of flower and 15 grams (which is about a half ounce) of extract, such as edibles or vape cartridges, a day.
The first dispensaries for recreational use – the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control permitted 98 to open Tuesday, and most did – were already existing medical marijuana dispensaries. They will continue to serve both medical and recreational customers in the future.
