Courtney Stodden’s “Toxic Relationship” With Alcohol - Addiction/Recovery eBulletin

TOXIC RELATIONSHIP WITH ALCOHOL –

July 21, 2025 – Courtney Stodden is embracing a sober lifestyle.

The Celebrity Big Brother U.K. alum shared their decision to give up alcohol in a candid message about struggling with substances.

“Alcohol, I’m breaking up with you,” Courtney  wrote in a post on Instagram July 15. “It’s been a toxic relationship for years. Something I used to cope, to escape, to survive. But it’s hurt me more than it’s ever helped me—publicly and privately.”

The 30-year-old also noted that the day before sharing the message marked “the last time” they would be drinking.

“I’m done letting it control me,” Courtney continued. “I’m done feeling sick and ashamed. I want to be fully present in my life. I want to face my past, my trauma and my current reality with clear eyes and real strength.”

Three days into their sobriety journey, Courtney—who made headlines as a 16-year-old in 2011 for marrying then-51-year-old Doug Hutchison—shared a follow-up post alleging that the actor “taught me how to drink” before their divorce in 2020.

“He would drink bottles and bottles and bottles and bottles of alcohol, he would abuse me,” Courtney said in the July 17 video. “So I started drinking, and I learned from my groomer how to drink.”

While the reality star detailed previously using alcohol “to cover up things that make me unhappy,” they were determined to stick to their new lifestyle.

“I never want to end up out of control,” they shared. “I won’t let that happen to me.”
