Oct. 31, 2025 – Anthony Ysasaga has released his book described as his “raw, unfiltered journey through the depths of abuse, depression, addiction, trauma, and rage.” Ysasaga said the book chronicles his struggles with alcoholism, drug use and untreated mental illness that he hid behind what he called “a carefully curated facade of stability and confidence.” Ysasaga says two major events changed the trajectory of his life. His daughter died in Dallas in 2019, and he nearly died from COVID-19 in 2021, which triggered encephalitis and left him in a coma for three days. “Those moments of loss and survival became the turning point that forced me to confront my pain and choose a new path, one built on honor, purpose, and meaning,” Ysasaga said.
Recovery and athletic achievements
Ysasaga said he is now sober and mentally healthy. He has completed eight Ironman races and has been married for 22 years.
He and his son plan to compete in the Dallas/Little Elm Ironman on March 15. “This book is more than just my story: it’s a lifeline for anyone silently battling pain, searching for hope, or feeling like no one could possibly understand what they’re going through,” Ysasaga said.
