WE DON’T DRINK ANYMORE –
January 21, 2026 – Charlie Puth reflected on his decision to stop drinking alcohol four years ago, detailing how the turning point came after a bad experience in New York City. “It was right before the third album [2022’s Charlie] was about to come out, and I was like, ‘I’m just gonna have a rager.’ I woke up with the worst hangover I’ve ever felt in my life. It lasted for, I think, two days.”
However, his piercing hangover wasn’t the only reminder of his session. The “How Long” star also “saw pictures of myself with people I didn’t even know,” and that alarmed him.
“I remember they all wanted to get coffee the next morning, in a scene-y part of town,” the 34-year-old recalled. “I saw them all eating, and then I just turned the other way and walked back to the hotel and just stayed there by myself for a couple days.”
Charlie continued, “It’s hard to describe, but after years of surrounding myself with the wrong things and saying the wrong things, it’s profound when it just all comes to a screeching halt one day at 30 years old in New York City.”
Indeed, The Voice alum—who’s expecting his first baby with wife Brooke Sansone—was confronting several hard truths in his life at the time, including how living up to his own definition of being a successful musician negatively impacted him.
