While the 61-year-old musician has earned his fair share of critical accolades – including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and an induction into the legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame – DMC is spending as much time building awareness around substance abuse and mental health as he is on the contemporary music scene.
As further proof of that fact, the “It’s Like That” musician has recently begun partnering with 1 Million Strong, an organization dedicated to aiding individuals in substance abuse and mental health recovery through sober-supportive communities within the world of entertainment.
In our conversation, DMC opened up about his own past struggles with alcoholism and mental health, as well as his hopes for how Dry January can lead those struggling with addiction to seek out support and recovery.
