Ant McPartlin is ‘much better person’ Now As He Addresses Sobriety - Addiction/Recovery eBulletin

Jan. 20, 2026 – Dec Donnelly has shared why he thinks Ant McPartlin is a ‘much better person’ now as they seemingly addressed his 2018 drink-driving crash.

Fans best know the pair for having worked in a duo for more than 30 years. But it was eight years ago that personal matters overshadowed their career, as Ant was arrested after he hit a BMW while driving his Mini Cooper.  He was fined £86,000 and handed a 20-month ban, which was reduced to 15 months after he completed a drink-driving referral course.

Speaking about his co-star and friend of 30 years in a new interview, Dec is reported as saying: “What I most admire is that with the challenges he’s faced, especially over the last few years, Ant took responsibility and real action.”

He added in the interview with The Times: “He worked on himself so much to get back not just to being himself but actually being a much better person than he was before.” Ant then went on to speak about the “difficult” times he experienced in his 40s.

He told the publication: “Turning 50 for me was great because my early forties was a really tough time. These last few years, it’s the happiest I’ve been in a long, long time. What changes as you get older, especially being sober as well, for me, is the purpose.
