BIG PIECE OF SILT –

Jan. 9, 2026 – A 39-year-old man who ran sober homes across Massachusetts and insulation companies that received state assistance was sentenced to six years in prison for his role in a variety of fraud schemes, federal prosecutors announced. In addition to the prison time, Daniel Cleggett, of Kingston, was ordered to pay restitution totaling more than $1.8 million…In December 2024, Cleggett pleaded guilty to 25 counts of wire fraud, six counts of money laundering, three counts of making false statements to a mortgage lending business, two counts of wire fraud conspiracy and a single count of mortgage fraud conspiracy. Cleggett was arrested and charged in March 2023 along with Nicholas Espinosa, a co-conspirator who pleaded guilty to criminal charges in October 2024.

Cleggett founded a sober home business called A Vision From God LLC in November 2016, which operated sober homes in Boston, Wakefield, Quincy and Weymouth. Espinosa was responsible for managing the business’s day-to-day affairs.

At some point, Cleggett, Espinosa and a sober home client entered into a conspiracy to defraud a New York-based family trust that was paying for the client’s room and board at a Quincy sober home, according to the U.S. attorney’s office. Cleggett and Espinosa overcharged the trust up to $12,500 by submitting false and fraudulent invoices. They would then issue refund checks to the client.
