Person of the Week: Carrie Simmons - Addiction/Recovery eBulletin

Aug. 26, 2025 –  Born in Alexandria, Virginia, Carrie completed high school after being in several theatrical productions and went onto the Savannah College of Art Design in Georgia. She majored in fashion design, then moved to New York City and worked for several top designers, wanting to start her own label. She moved to LA and began an environmentally friendly fashion company, then landed several parts in movies and acting and worked as a print model. When she gained sobriety, she decided to go back to school and earn a master’s degree in clinical psychology as an LMFT.

Q. If you are in recovery, what was your drug(s) of choice and when is your sobriety date?
A. Alcohol and cocaine! 10-6-2007.

Q. Is there anything special in your sobriety toolkit that helps keep you sober?
A. Going to at least three meetings a week and working with a sponsor.

Q. Do you think addiction is an illness, disease, a choice, or a wicked twist of fate?
A. Yes, I believe it is a disease, a genetic predisposition and a mind illness.
