Retired Teacher Spends $150k on Tattoos: Turns Body into Sober Memoir - Addiction/Recovery eBulletin

MOM –

June 19, 2025 – Elizabeth Beauvais, 65, started her tattoo journey aged 31 and uses her body art to express her sobriety, personal growth, and bohemian spirit.

Since then, her collection has grown to cover most of her body, with only her face and butt remaining untouched.

For Beauvais, her tattoos are a living memoir — each design a chapter in her life’s story.

Elizabeth, who dedicated 25 years to teaching Head Start and now works as a caregiver, of Lakewood, California, said: “Believe it or not, I have no regrets about my tattoos because they all have a meaning and a history to them.

“Some of them are not as well done as others, but I’m okay with that because the bonding with the person is fine with me.

“I wanted to tell the story of my life, my trials and tribulations, on my body.”

Beauvais began her tattoo journey relatively late in life, getting her first tattoo — a small flower on her right shoulder — at the age of 31, simply because she was curious.

“I love art, and I’ve always been a bohemian hippie,” Beauvais explained. “Part of it was the pleasure-pain theory that people like; they feel the pain to release their emotions.”
