Addiction Treatment Services Selling Recovery Homes  - Addiction/Recovery eBulletin

VIDEO – IN THE MARKET? –

June 3, 2025 – As the non-profit celebrates 50 years of service, CEO Paula Lipinski explained staff need to make decisions that will keep the organization going for another 50 years.

One of those decisions is selling the houses they use for the Recovery Home program. Eleven buildings are owned by ATS. Lipinski praised her predecessors for outside the box thinking to turn historic downtown Traverse City houses into recovery homes to help people. The homes serve as transitional housing for people leaving treatment.

“That’s the benefit of those homes, but the deficit of those homes is the cost of maintaining them,” said Lipinski. “Many of them are from the 1800s, 1890s. Just thinking about, you know, owning my own home, multiplying that by six, plus having people, these are homes that people generally stay six months in. So, 54 people times six months. It’s a lot of traffic for some of these older homes.”

Six of the 11 properties are recovery homes. One houses women and five house men.

However, the goal of the next 50 years is to combine all the facilities under one roof. So, instead of driving down the street, staff can walk down the hall.
