Whey Jennings On Overcoming Addiction

MUSICAL COWBOY OUTLAW –

Aug. 23, 2024 – Whey Jennings comes from a famous family, but his life and music journey are completely his own. He’s the  grandson of Waylon Jennings, and spent most of his life moving back and forth between his divorced parents. He only saw Waylon about three or four times a year.

“I grew up listening to his music and knew every word to every song. So, just like everybody who starts out with a bar band, you sing the songs you know. I also sang Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Seger, Otis Redding, and others, but I sang the music I loved and a lot of it was Waylon’s. He was my grandfather, but he was also one of the greatest musicians that ever lived.”

But Jennings has been determined to carve out his own path with his music and tell his own stories. He soon began co-writing songs that touched on his own life, including his decades long battle with drugs and alcohol, and eventually, the celebration in overcoming it.
