When the NBA ended, Greg Oden descended into alcoholism

April 12, 2019  – The life of the No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA draft had been whittled down to nothing more than a shell of an existence. Oden huddled in a dark house nearly 10 years after that triumphant moment, isolated, with alcohol-induced bulimia. Oden, then 28, would stare at the television screen, watching clips of the player drafted No. 2 behind him, Kevin Durant, now a league superstar. The tears would flow. He would watch the old NBA YouTube clips of himself, knowing he shouldn’t. He would sob.
