Walgreens Introduces Low-Cost Naloxone

Jan. 2, 2025 – Walgreens recently introduced a store-brand version of naloxone, the opioid overdose reversal medication. The Walgreens medication is called Walgreens Brand Naloxone HCl Nasal Spray and is available on the company’s website, and at stores throughout the country in the pain relief aisle.

The cost of Walgreens over-the-counter naloxone is $34.99 for a two-pack supply, $10 less than brand-name OTC naloxone, which the FDA first authorized in 2023.

Naloxone, administered as a spray in the nostrils of so Because OTC naloxone allows purchasers to bypass the pharmacy counter, it fills a need for people who are uncomfortable asking for the prescription version, even in locations where a standing order allows a pharmacist to dispense the drug without an individual presenting a prescription.  “But we need expansion of other low-cost and free options as well.”
