Recovery Bus Brings Message of Hope

SPREADING THE GOOD NEWS –

Sept. 6, 2024 – People gather to sign the bus. “I worked with people with addiction for about 15 years. You only hear about the overdoses and the sad part and ruining lives,” McCahill said by phone. “The reality is, there are 22.3 million people in recovery in the United States right now.” It’s a 63-stop tour through the state celebrating people living life after addiction.

McCahill said the events feature talks from the courageous people who’ve chosen recovery, as well as proclamations from elected officials. Some stops are coordinated with local events like high school football games or fairs, while others focus on a particular policy related to recovery, organizers said.

People struggling with substances can call 988, the state’s new crisis line, but McCahill said anyone can show up at an emergency room to learn about options for recovery. Bridge Health is the safety net for Georgians without insurance, she said, so people without insurance who qualify can receive services at no charge.
