Forging a personal connection with God helped change that, filling a void for many of the people he approached. “We wanted to create an environment where people would walk in and they would feel welcome and loved,” said Bonney, who attends a nondenominational church. “We’re a faith-based approach. We don’t beat anyone up with the Bible, but we’re not afraid to have spiritual discussions … We just don’t shy away from talking about the things that we believe can actually truly help them.”
