More anxiety and insomnia in USA –

May 25, 2020 – Health problems, social isolation and the stress of job loss weigh on people’s well-being. More than a third of Americans say the pandemic is having a “serious impact” on their mental health, according to a poll released March 25 by the American Psychiatric Association. Among parents of children under the age of 18, 46% rated their average pandemic stress level at 8, 9 or 10 on a 10-point scale, according to a survey published by the American Psychological Association on 21 may. The country’s highest mental health official recently warned that suffering could worsen if there was a second coronavirus lockout.

“This type of chronic stress causes, for all those people who have never had anxiety before, it overwhelms them in some way,” explains Charles B. Nemeroff, professor and director of the department of psychiatry at Dell Medical School of the University of Texas. in Austin and president-elect of the American Anxiety and Depression Association. “If you have lost your job, if you are afraid of running out of food for your children, it will prevent you from sleeping at night. And for those with a history of anxiety and depression, stress can increase the risk of relapse.
