MAY 7, 2017 – Colin Farrell has a lot to celebrate: The actor has been sober for 10 years, he shares on Monday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “Congratulations – you look fantastic,” DeGeneres said as the audience applauded Farrell, who turns 41 on May 31. “I love getting older,” said Farrell. “Except getting hair in strange places and losing hair in not-so-strange places a bit. It’s kind of an aversion that’s unfavorable. I robbed that from Billy Crytal in City Slickers, for anybody that cares.”

MAY 4, 2017 – Meyers: “House Republicans today voted on and passed an Obamacare replacement bill without knowing how much it would cost. Though I’m not surprised – they also voted on an Obama replacement without knowing the cost.” … Now, listen, if hearing that raises your blood pressure, calm down. You can’t afford the medication anymore.” Fallon: “Today the House voted to pass the Republican health-care bill before taking an 11-day recess. George Michael’s ex-lover Kenny Goss reveals… VIDEO
May 6, –  2017 –  HE was one of the world’s greatest superstars, with a stage presence and singing voice that won him an army of fans and put millions of pounds in the bank. But George Michael was happiest at home in his grey Gap flannel pyjamas, watching Corrie and eating tubs of Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey ice cream … Today, in the most revealing interview ever given about the singer’s life, his partner and soulmate Kenny Goss says: “The man on the stage being George Michael was a stranger to me and he didn’t like being that person … “He liked to stay in front of the TV all the time watching soaps and eating Chunky Monkey ice cream. Sometimes he stayed up until 5am.”

Brad Pitt on Divorce, Quitting Drinking, Becoming a Better Man, and Matcha Tea
MAY 3, 2017 – Brad Pitt is making matcha green tea on a cool morning in his old Craftsman in the Hollywood Hills, where he’s lived since 1994. There have been other properties in other places-including a château in France and homes in New Orleans and New York City-but this has always been his kids’ “childhood home,” he says. Even though they’re not here now, he’s decided it’s important that he is. Today the place is deeply silent, except for the snoring of his dog, Jacques.

Older, Not Necessarily Wiser
Behind closed doors, the hidden problem of baby-boomer addiction
May 8, 2017 – I never touched a drop in my life. Now, it’s all I’ve got.” One of my first referrals as a consultant old-age psychiatrist was a woman with anxiety who began drinking after her husband died. Grief at losing her partner pulled her into a deep depression. Alcohol eased the pain. It became all she could think about. Her life revolved around buying and consuming drink; dependence on alcohol to soothe her sorrow developed into an addiction.

This treatment reduces anxiety, helps manage physical withdrawal symptoms, reduces physical pain, improves sleep, and more. Depending on the patient and the substance involved, it may be used as an adjunct to other addiction recovery treatments or stand on its own. Manhattan Acupuncture Clinic has successfully treated many affected patients to aid them in their recovery.

U.S. life expectancy varies by more than 20 years from county to county VIDEO
Life expectancy is rising overall in the United States, but in some areas, death rates are going conspicuously in the other direction. These geographical disparities are widening, according to a report published Monday in JAMA Internal Medicine … Andrew Cherlin, a professor of sociology and public policy at Johns Hopkins University, said that the increasing inequality in death rates at the county level is troubling. “But it’s unclear from this study what has caused it,” said Cherlin, who was not part of the research team. “It’s hard to separate out the consequences of lower incomes, unhealthy conditions such as obesity, less access to health care, and of healthier people moving out of some counties.”

Woman Walking the Walk
Report from #SheRecoversNYC
May 6, 2017 – Elizabeth Vargas talked about anxiety and panic attacks which is something I identify with very closely. I think a lot of women suffer with anxiety and panic disorders and we mostly suffer alone … When amazing women get together amazing things happen. Day 2 of She Recovers was just as amazing the first. Elena Brower did an amazing spoken word piece on her recovery and it was word perfect. Then Nikki Myers spoke the truth on codependency. She called it the ‘disease of the lost self’. And how our need for outside approval keeps us in the darkness. There seems to be a theme emerging to the She Recovers event and it’s ‘welcome the pain.’ Which sounds crazy, but it started with Glennon last night. When she discussed not wanting to ‘waste the pain’ from the breakdown of her marriage, that instead, she wanted to mine it. Because within the pain the riches lie. ‘Ain’t that the truth sister.

Pippa “Pip” McManus was granted home leave from the Priory hospital in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, ahead of completion of the formal discharge process, Dec. 2015 … A jury at South Manchester coroner’s court concluded on Wednesday that Pip had taken her own life, but said that the lack of support provided to her family and the delay in implementing a care plan when she arrived home could have been contributory factors in her death.

Inside the Community of the Men Who Have Given Up PORN VIDEO
May 3, 2017 –  addiction is not a clinically diagnosed condition. But that doesn’t stop swathes of men – for it is predominantly men – of all ages across the world becoming seemingly addicted to watching porn. Erectile dysfunction amongst young men is on the rise, but opinions are divided as to whether this is as a result of porn or simply masturbation. Studies have shown that pornography constitutes about 25 per cent of all search engine requests and affects the brain in much the same way as drugs.

Up in smoke: Florida legislature can’t agree on medical marijuana
May 6, 2017 – Rules to enact Florida’s medical marijuana amendment went up in smoke on Friday after the Legislature failed to pass a bill. The House and Senate agreed on most key parts of a bill putting rules in place for Amendment 2. But it collapsed on Friday when the chambers could not agree on the number of retail dispensaries that a medical marijuana treatment center can operate.

Parents’ drug use driving increase in abuse, neglect of children
May 5, 2017 – An organization that represents the best interests of abused and neglected children in the court system is facing a greater challenge than ever before. The number of children served by Advocates for Children has nearly doubled in five years, with the primary driver drug use by parents. From 2012 to 2016, the number of children served by the Columbus-based agency in Bartholomew County jumped from 225 to 436, which is a 94 percent increase. During that same period, the percentage of children who have at least one parent with a substance abuse problem rose from 72% to 95%.

The center is funded through a $1.75 million grant from the state Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services.

The power of addiction: A  Channel 6 News special report VIDEO
May 8, 2017 – It’s one of the biggest threats facing American youth today, all too often hiding in plain sight. And for millions of parents across the nation, navigating their children through the complex journey of substance abuse has become a frightening reality. Maria Appelzoller’s son has battled an alcohol addiction for over a decade.  When it became overwhelming, she started to search for ways to cope, which led her to hold weekly weekly support meetings in round rock called PAL or parents of addicted loved ones. “I was afraid that one day I would be driving through the city and see a homeless face, and realize it was my son.” She says.

As fentanyl death toll spikes, states step up their interventions
May 8, 2017 – A billboard on a main highway tallies the number of residents in this mostly rural county who have overdosed on prescription painkillers, heroin and other illicit opioids this year: 96 overdoses, 15 of them fatal. What the sign doesn’t say is that a large and growing number of those deaths are the result of fentanyl, a fast-acting drug that is 50 times stronger than heroin and can kill users within seconds. Cheap and easy to produce, it is used by drug dealers to intensify the effects of heroin and other illicit drugs, often without the users’ knowledge.
