Marc Malkin is the Senior Culture & Events Editor at Variety. Prior to writing for Variety, Marc could be seen on numerous award show red carpets interviewing celebs for E! News. As an on-air correspondent he earned two Emmy nominations and also established himself as an investigative journalist.
Through Marc’s zest for breaking exclusive stories and his close relationships in the film industry he has scooped international headline-making stories about Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Reese Witherspoon, Sofia Vergara, Jimmy Kimmel, Bradley Cooper, Charlize Theron, Kim Kardashian, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Aniston, Miley Cyrus, Blake Lively to name a few.
One of the most exciting and relevant stories Marc broke was in 2019 at the 10th Annual Experience, Strength and Hope Awards. (The Experience, Strength and Hope awards gives sober celebrity an award for writing a memoir about their life, including their journey from addiction into sobriety.) Actor John Stamos surprised the audience as he credited Experience, Strength and Hope award winner Jodie Sweetin with helping him get sober. Marc was covering the event for Variety and his article gained widespread attention. This story was particularly relevant because Marc is sober, too.
“Sometimes things happen that weren’t expected and you wonder why it’s happening. For me, I was shown today to have gratitude for my sobriety. I can’t believe I’ve been able to stay sober for more than seven years. I am so grateful. So very grateful”
In addition to Senior Editor at Variety, Marc also hosts the wildly popular podcast The Big Ticket with Marc Malkin. Each week he interviews a popular actor or actress and while the talk is usually about film, his closeness with the celebrity community and ability to listen allows even the biggest stars to open up.
In 2017, the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association honored Marc with the Lisa Ben award. TheAdvocate has also named Marc as one of the 50 Most Influential LGBT people in media. He has co-chaired the GLAAD Media Awards and is a longtime supporter of the Los Angeles LGBT Center.
Originally from New York, Marc now lives in Los Angeles with his husband Fabian and their two dogs Jeb and Paca.
