Jul 28, 2019 – “One day I had a moment and said to [Vic] how cool would it be to do an art exhibit of people struggling with all types of disorders, including addiction,” explained Mendez. The exhibit was small at first and held in a local coffee shop, but the interest was there and soon it grew into more than a one-day event. “Three years ago, I was attending another film festival, there I was and I had an epiphany. I was like ‘man, I’m tired of going to other people’s film festivals, why don’t we add a film festival to the art exhibit’?” he said. This festival is unique as it features both film and art, two areas that are typically separate events. Not only is art and film the focus of the event, Mendez and James have added other outlets such as guest speakers, musical performances, photographers, short films, documentaries and an open mic. New to the festival this year are free workshops with topics such as how to become a published author, mental health and fitness, how to make short films at low cost and more. Featured sponsors for this year’s festival include Healthier Lake Worth and Aion Health Group.
