Involuntary addiction treatment going under-used

June 20, 2019 – Several times she’s told KOMO she would like to not use heroin, but she can’t seem to quit. Overdoses killed both her boyfriend and her father. Lauren Davis had a friend like Paige — Ricky Garcia. The two met as teenagers and stayed best friends. Early on, Ricky began to drink, then smoke marijuana, eventually leading to harder drugs like heroin. She says he was taken to an emergency room 75 times, was hospitalized six times and assigned to three different psychiatric treatment centers after trying to commit suicide several times. He suffered several overdoses along the way and could not stay in treatment.
