Dec 13, 2019 – She’s now making the choice to get clean once and for all and she’s sharing her progress with her mother Gloria and daughter Amarri. “I couldn’t ask for a better gift. I couldn’t pay for this. This is a priceless opportunity to be here and see within the community how much support she has to recover,” Gloria Barbee said. Mayor Greg Fischer also stopped by to offer words of support to the women.

“It’s not easy and it takes courage on your all’s part to say, ‘Yes, I’m going to make a change,’” Fischer said. Teresa Duff is in the program because of alcohol abuse. She’s getting to see her sister and her daughter for the first time in person since entering treatment.

“I actually get to hug her and touch her and that means a lot,” Duff said. The inmates even got to give their family presents. “The church actually brought these gifts in and we got to wrap them ourselves. It was a blessing. I didn’t feel like I was locked up. I felt like a normal person. I didn’t feel like just a number,” Duff said.
