Fentanyl Has New Mexico in Death Grip

VIDEO – SAVE OUR COUNTRY –

Aug. 21, 2023 – ALBUQUERQUE, NM— It’s in our communities, it’s found wherever we go, and it’s something Bernalillo County officials say needs to be discussed as often as possible: the dangers of fentanyl.

“I think it’s most important that our communities understand that they’re not alone,” District 3 Bernalillo County Commissioner Adriann Barboa said. “The more that we keep this important conversation happening, the more lives we can save,” Barboa said.

She said she’s aware of the impact fentanyl has in New Mexico.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle — the five counties with the highest overdose death rates are:

Bernalillo County: reporting nearly 69 deaths per 100,000 people, the third highest in the state.

Rio Arriba County: having by far the highest rate in the state, with more than 117 deaths per hundred thousand. Matthew Guzman, a recovering fentanyl addict, knows what this drug can do.
