Don McLeese recalls ‘rolling and tumbling toward sobriety’ in new memoir

ONCE YOU’RE THERE, STAY THERE –

Nov. 16, 2022 – “It’s kind of the making of an alcoholic. It’s kind of a rock ’n’ roll memoir. It’s certainly a journalism memoir,” said McLeese, a University of Iowa associate professor and former journalist, of his book “Slippery Steps: Rolling and Tumbling Toward Sobriety.”

“It starts out in the ‘50s, which had this ‘Mad Men’ type celebration of drinking as part of what’s considered part of the suburban good life. Then it goes into my generational attraction toward drinking, toward drugs — that had to do with rock ’n’ roll and rebellion.”
