June 11, 2018 – This digital age is changing the way people reach out for help. There’s an app for that and “that” means your mental health. Apps for meditation and counseling are letting people literally take their mental health care into their own hands. Stephanie Jennings runs Stepping Stones, a women’s sober living home in Huntsville. They’ve been taking full advantage. “It seemed really important to bring in what’s happening and what younger women use in this day and time,” Jennings said. “Everybody uses apps so how can we make that in our everyday lives, in our sobriety how can we use that to forward our sobriety?” Jennings and the nearly two dozen women mostly use meditation apps. A popular one called Headspace Health is seeking FDA approval to be the first prescription meditation app. Jennings has seen results from apps like this. “I have always had problems sleeping and especially with everything going on at the end of the day you’re thinking, ‘What can I do better? What can I do next?” she said. “Listening to the apps I definitely wake up better and ready for the next day listening to those apps all night.”
