‘Addiction and Recovery in a Song’

VIDEO – WITH A SONG IN HIS HEART –

Nov. 8, 2024 – “Physically, I was sick. Spiritually, I was sick. I was basically alone. All the things that I cared about, most of them were gone,” he said. “And so, when you’re in that spot, you just think, what are your options?” In desperation, with nowhere left to turn, he finally asked for help. He started going to AA meetings, and a Recovery in Christ fellowship group.

“I decided to go into rehab again and I was, I was ready and God was ready for me,” he said.

Only six months later, he began leading that group, providing a place for people to support each other and share their faith. His wife returned after only five months being gone, and they’ve now been married 45 years.

Bowles also reunited with another of his first loves – music. Six years ago, at 61 years old, he picked up the guitar again and started singing lessons.

“I think, the oldest was about 15, and then there was this 61-year-old guy, and I thought it was awesome, you know. Because it’s never too late to chase a dream,” he said.

Bowles began playing with other musicians around town and writing songs. After releasing “Some Days are Hard” last year, he’s now working on his second album. Songs from both will be played at the concert Sunday.

“The way that I pray about it, that it’ll touch some hearts, that people will really be able to relate to the music and the stories behind the people who are on the stage,” Bowles said.
