July 25, 2024 – The Sternberg Mansion was built in 1886 and it was used as a boarding house for many years but now it’s been completely transformed into a new sober living home for men. An investment well worth it. That’s what Suter, the new owner of the mansion, calls his next adventure.
“I believe in this so much because everything I have is absolutely because of the things this house is founded on,” said Suter.
Suter actually purchased the property two years ago and he and others have been working on it ever since. He has invested a lot of his own money, as well as grant money into the house.
The home has nine bedrooms, four bathrooms, four fireplaces, two sets of washers and dryers, two balconies, three porches, two brand new ac units, all new appliances and all new plumbing and electric.
“I love it. It’s a huge sense of accomplishment. I love that we completed it,” said Suter.
The house also has some of the most interesting wallpaper you’ve ever seen, including entire walls covered in Little Orphan Annie cartoons.
Now the mansion is called the “How It Works Sober Living Home.” Suter got the idea to make his own men’s sober living home when he was in recovery at the Oxford House for two years. He battled with alcoholism and addiction and won.
