INTERVIEW

Video Interview Editor/Publisher

My name is Leonard Buschel. I am the founder of the REEL Recovery Film Festival & Symposium, which is a film festival that travels around the country. It’s the longest recovery event in the country. Seven days in Los Angeles. We also have a three-day festival in Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Denver, Richmond, Virginia, and…

Q: What are your thoughts on the heroin epidemic?
BUSCHEL: I don’t know if it’s an epidemic. According to the dictionary, it’s not. The definition of “epidemic” is not something that people do to themselves. It’s a disease that spreads from one person to another through contact. So I wouldn’t call it an epidemic. That’s a misnomer. It is a crisis. It is a national disgrace. It is a profound sickness in America that so many people are in so much pain that they’d rather die than face reality on a daily basis. That’s a tragedy. I mean I think it goes hand-in-hand with the downfall of … the American Dream is now finally over.

Stick with the Winners

NEW – ARTIST’S CORNER – Shira Goldberg

Shira Goldberg is a staunch advocate in the areas of addiction recovery and of best practices, including harm reduction. After overcoming her own battles…

Q. Do you believe artists are made or born?
A. Both. We are all byproducts of our biology and environment. Talent in any form comes from an innate part of one’s soul and psyche. It is nurtured, reinforced, and made room for. If one is interested in anything and has the room to hone their craft, the natural creativity will be expressed in relation to environment, culture challenging the status quo.
Q. Do prefer to living by the ocean, lake, river, mountain top, or penthouse?
A. My ideal situation would be to have daily access to the ocean, because I have found that the ocean has always been a source of cleansing solace, and of rejuvenation.
